Congratulations to the Llanelli Warriors who, although they didn't match the heights of their 25th season (2021/22) when they played 35 fixtures, still managed 20 matches to retain the title.

Check out a review of their season here:

The league is set to reward the teams playing as “just another team”, integrated into their sporting communities, rather than a separate “disability sport”.  You can see that the teams at the top end of the table are playing full seasons of rugby, not just against each other, but involving “normal” rugby teams.  Whilst winning is important, the taking part is the most important thing.

Obviously this is easier in countries that have a well established rugby tradition and there are already many teams playing at different levels.  It is a measure of the positivity of mixed ability rugby, that it is thriving outside Tier 1 rugby nations in places like Belgium and Spain.  Many sides play tournaments rather than stand alone fixtures and going forward a day at a tournament will score the same as holding a match (50 points).

Even with these limitations on getting in correct results - the league is a show of strength for the mixed ability movement.  Every one of the teams listed is holding various training sessions, social events, fundraisers, often taking part in other sports, supporting other community projects and just being active, positive participants in society.

It is already impossible to write a complete list of mixed ability teams, with some forming for specific tournaments or not actually playing matches.  However, here is a fairly comprehensive list of teams (with Facebook links) (If you don't see you're team or club please let us know in the comments)

Extensive as the league and the list above are, it could be so much better.  The league is made up from information sent in or easily available.  The hope is that via this Blog, a live league can be kept updated as the 2023/24 season progresses.  Already the Swansea Gladiators, Borders Clan, URA Clan Almeria, Edinburgh IRT, Fife Clan and Strathmore are off the mark this season.
